Oral rinses fall into three categories: antimicrobial, anti-cavity (fluoride) and lubrication for dry mouth.

When choosing an oral rinse it is important to understand why you’re using it and chose one with a pH level above 6.5 — if you want more detailed information you can read my blog post here.

The rinses linked on this page have positive pH levels. I’ve outlined their purpose, active ingredients and general perceptions.

Closys Silver

  • Purpose: pH balancing, antimicrobial, anti-cavity.

  • Active Ingredients: Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide, Sodium Fluoride

  • pH Level: 7.1

  • Perception: mild, subtle mint flavoring.

Closys Sensitive

  • Purpose: pH balancing, antimicrobial (same as “Silver” but without the anti-cavity component).

  • Active Ingredients: Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide.

  • pH Level: 7.1

  • Perception: mild, subtle mint flavoring.

Carifree CTX3 Rinse

  • Purpose: pH balancing, anti-cavity.

  • Active Ingredients: Sodium Fluoride, Xylitol, Sodium bicarbonate.

  • pH Level: 8.3

  • Perception: brisk mint flavoring.

  • Additional Flavors: Citrus and Grape

Therabreath Health Gums

  • Purpose: pH balancing, antimicrobial.

  • Active Ingredients: Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC)

  • pH Level: 8.2

  • Perception: brisk mint flavoring.

Therabreath Healthy Smile

  • Purpose: pH balancing, anti-cavity.

  • Active Ingredients: Sodium fluoride

  • pH Level: 8.2

  • Perception: brisk mint flavoring.

Biotene Dry Mouth

  • Purpose: soothing dry mouth. No significant antimicrobial or anti-cavity ingredients.

  • Active Ingredients: Glycerin, Xylitol, Propolene Glycol, Hydroxyethyl cellulose

  • pH Level: 8.2

  • Perception: soothing
